It's $30, they're trying to emulate Minecraft. Charge more as time goes on and ramp up the price when it's closer to 'release'

Overall, I just don't care. The standalone will be buggy as shit and the developers are taking a very lackadaisical approach. I don't want to buy more pre-release games, just to have them take forever to get patched, wipe your characters, and get burned out on the game before it's even stable.
Sure, most of those games are fun, but some just die. CubeWorld is maintained by one guy and hasn't patched in 6 months. Starbound is wiping characters regularly and adding new content.
However, $30 is worth the amount of fun I had in the mod for Arma 2. So, I may still get it just to support my previous fun.

I don't care much for this new paid beta model. I'll pay for a finished product, not the idea of one.

I'm finding that buying into early access can actually be a bad thing. You can get burnt out on the concept and not want to play the finished product.

That's a good point too.

LOL.

I bought it too. So much for my rambling. I would say that it is more of the same but with a better coat of paint. Minor additions such as clothing types and some new animations makes it worth it though. There seemed to be a lot less zeds this time around. Just last night they patched the game twice it seemed like. Which is cool.
Fun Facts:
The standalone adaptation of the popular mod made 172,500 sales in the 24 hours since Day Z launched on Steam Early Access.

Within one hour of launch, 19,000 players had joined the DayZ alpha, with the number increasing by about 200 per second, creator Dean Hall revealed on Twitter.

172,500 x $30 = $5,175,000

Not bad for less than the first day I would guess

That is a good point. I don't think the current product is necessarily worth $30 cuz it's buggy and they're wiping characters.... but... I did have lots of fun on the mod. I'd say $30 worth of fun.

Exactly, and how much did you guys spend so far on stardock simulator? I bet most paid ~ $100 or more and you can't even play that shit yet.

It's not really even an alpha, if you can't accept the fact that it's in development/buggy/DB wipes then simply don't play/buy it. It's also not like it is $30 now and then you have to pay again later, you have the full game for $30 when it does come out. It's also interesting to see how things will develop and change over time. I like being part of the development and seeing progress and things being altered, for better or worse. That's one thing that I do really like about the game, is they always seem to be changing and adding things, even after you do buy it, which keeps it interesting and wanting to play more :)

DayZ time-of-day alteration
Last updated on 1/27/2014 2:38:00 PM by Mafi
Due to popular demand, we will be rolling out a change to all DayZ servers in 10 hours (06:00 GMT) that will make servers permanently daylight; every tim the server restarted, the server will reset back to 09:00 game time, giving you that wonderful morning freshness all day long.

Please be aware that this change will be deployed at 06:00 GMT and will take servers offline briefly during this time.
